Millville – August 18th, 2002
Millville was a pretty good race for me. I had some good lap times and
scored a couple more National points. I won my Saturday Qualifier and got
fourth in my Sunday Qualifier. In the first moto, I started around
15th. I ran around in that position for about five laps until I got a lot
of dirt in my eyes. I hit my head on the handlebars in the huge sand
whoops and at the same time I got roosted and dirt got in my goggles
somehow. I had to stop and get a new pair. I lost a lot of
positions and had a disappointing finish.
In the second moto, I started 12th. I got passed on the first lap and
then ran around in 13th for about 20 minutes of the moto. I got passed by
a few people and was running 16th when I caught up to Steve Boniface. I
was going to pass him in the sand whoops when he cut over on me and took Damon
Huffman and I out. He totally cut over in the air and then brake checked
me. It was not a cool move! Huffman had nowhere to go and ran into
me and he and I crashed together. Luckily, I kept my motor running and
still finished 19th.
Binghamton
– August 25th, 2002
Binghamton was a disappointing weekend for me. I did not like the track
at first because it rained a lot and the track was hard to ride. I
crashed in the first turn in my heat race and had to go to the last
chance. I was lucky because there was a gate left open on the inside for
the LC1. I started about eighth and finished third. It was a good
qualifier for me.
In the first moto, I started 30th due to having a bad gate pick. I
decided that that was not bad enough, so I threw myself on the ground and got
up in 386th. I ended up working back to 23rd. Everyone is in good
shape right now and the tracks are very one lined, so it was hard to get around
people. I ran fast and had fun so it was a good moto.
In the second moto, I started 13th and ran around the first couple laps
battling with people. On the third lap, I was in 16th and battling with
my cousin Justin Buckelew. We had a good race for about 3 laps. Then
he pulled a little gap on me. I was running in 17th with three laps to go
and no one was close behind me when I landed on a rock and put a hole in my
ignition cover. I proceeded to blow up my bike. I was
not a happy camper, but that is the breaks.
Local
Race
During the week, I raced a local Arenacross at Frozen Ocean MX Park. I
had a good night and some good racing. I battle with Ryan Mills in the
125. He is a New Yorker who is an up and comer that just turned
Pro. He will be racing Supercross and outdoors next year. He was
going really fast and we had a good battle. I passed him in a slick
corner and ended up winning, but not by much. I made more money in that
one night at a local race than I do at two Outdoor Nationals. I know that
I am not winning the outdoors, but top twenty should be more than 200 bucks.
I would just like to thank all my sponsors and fans for supporting me this
year.
