Tough Ride at Glen Helen for Kevin Johnson and His 2005 Plans

Glen Helen was a rough, dry, nasty track that taught me
that I am not the man. It kicked my butt all weekend long. At the
end of the weekend my hands were so sore I could barely carry a duffle bag, my
legs didn't want to move, and my whole body was quite mad at me. The
weekend did go OK. I qualified pretty good. I ran fast most of the
weekend. In the first moto, I got a good start and ran 14th for about 20
minutes. I just couldn't keep that pace. I wasn't that tired,
but I just couldn't hold on. I guess I was tired. I ended up going
all the way back to 19th. I was pretty mad. I tried to battle
the last few laps and pass Rusty Holland back, but I just didn't have anything
in me. In the second moto, I got a lousy jump off the line, but ended up
with a good start. My Big Gun 450 is very fast. I came around the
first turn and saw a Honda go flying and a body fall right in front of
me. I ran right over his stomach. I thought I had just hurt
someone. I thought about it the whole first lap. I think that is
one reason I went back wards. The fact that the down hill was so muddy
from being over watered that everyone just slid into each other and I got in a
little pile up. I didn't actually hit the ground, but I was stuck on
someone’s bike for a bit. When I got back around to where I had run the
person over there was no one there. So either he was ok, or really
hurt. I said a little prayer for who ever it was. Because it
doesn't matter the situation, God is bigger. He is bigger than anything
good or bad. I continued on, riding really well. I was working my
way back towards the top 20 when I started to get tired. 22 minutes is
how long I kept my good pace. I started to slow down and ended up getting
passed back by a few guys I had just passed. I decided to pull off.
I wish that I had not ended the year like this, but that track was
brutal. And when you are tired it is twice as rough and I was almost
crashing all over the place. I decided
it was better to pull off before I got carted off after a crash. I have
been training really had for these outdoor races and it definitely wasn't
enough. I have to take it up another step. I know that if I can
bring up my training just a little next year I will be finishing in the top 15
a lot. Thanks to all my sponsors and family for all that they have done
for me! And thanks to the fans for being such great supporters.
Kevin
Now for next year I will be riding for Team Faith. We
are planning on doing all the Arena Cross series and then the rest of the
Supercross series once the Arenacross Series ends. I want to do outdoors
also, but I don't even know if we will have the budget to do all the indoor
stuff. We are still looking for some sponsors and some people who believe
in the ministry behind Team Faith for support. You can check it out at
TeamFaith.com. It is being revamped so it is not completely updated, but
you can learn about the team and what it stands for.
Thanks so much,
Kevin
