Catching up with Kevin Johnson - He wins more than 2 Main Events in Baltimore, MD

Well,
I have dug such a deep hole
here. I haven’t kept up with my sight for so long I don't even know where
to start. So much has happened since I wrote in last. I am truly
sorry for not keeping up and being such a lazy bum. I hope that I haven't
lost too many fans and that they can forgive me for not doing anything with the
site.
First off I have to say that I
am extremely happy to be married. That is right. On August 28th,
2005 I married Seana Elizabeth Schultz.....now Seana Johnson. It was a
great wedding and an even greater honeymoon. I have been encouraging
everyone to get married just to go on the honeymoon......:)
As far as riding goes, I have
been working really hard and racing the Toyota AMA National Arenacross series
with Team Faith again. At the beginning of the season, I wasn't doing as
well as I had hoped.
I got hurt up in Canada last
July, and sat out for about three months. I actually was still supposed
to be on crutches when I walked down the isle at my wedding. Anyway, I
started ridding about two weeks before the first round of AX. I had been
swimming and doing a lot of physical training, so I thought I would be
good. But those first two rounds really wore me out. By round
three though, I felt pretty good. I ran up front and put in some good
races.
During the break form my series;
I raced two of the Bookoo Arenacross races. A lot of people have asked me
what I think about the two different series.....All I can say is that they’re fast
guys in both, and that the people running them both try hard to make the riders
happy. I can say that I am really happy where I am, with Team Faith and
the Toyota AMA Arenacross series.
I have been having a lot of fun
and enjoy being part of such a great group of people. Anyway at the
Bookoo rounds, I raced my clapped out practice bikes and still got a podium and
a bunch of top fives.... so that was pretty good.
Over the Christmas break, I
trained really hard and rode a bunch. Dallas was the first AX after the
break and I rode well. I was happy with my speed and my endurance. I just made a few mistakes on Saturday night
that cost me a bit.
This last weekend we raced in
Baltimore. It was a big weekend for Team Faith. On Friday night, I
got a good start in the main, worked into the lead and pretty much ran away
with it. It was my first win and Team Faith's first win in 13 years of
hard work. Saturday night was probably the best race I have done and one
of the best to watch...so I am told. I got a good start, but so did Jim
Neese, Brock Sellards, Chad Johnson, and Greg Schnell. All of us
proceeded to battle the entire race. At the end I made a few good passes,
and ended up on top of the podium. The other guys ran great races and
made me work for everything. I was so stoked to be in that race and
come out on top. It was really great.
One bad note on the past two
weekends is that my two freestyle teammates both got hurt. At Dallas
Willie Watts cased the jump pretty bad and fractured his wrist. But, he
taped it and finished out the weekend like a champ. Then in Baltimore,
Rob Lewis crashed on the double right in front of me during our train and he
partially separated his shoulder and got pretty beat up. Please keep them
in your prayers.
NOW FOR THE GOOD STUFF!
Riding for Team Faith the past
few years has been such a blessing for me! I have been around great
influencers. The Lord has spoken into my life quite a bit, and he
recently put me in a place to do the same to others. Team Faith went on
the Sunday after the race in Dallas to Irving Bible Church. We did a
little corny show for the kids and then went into their youth group to hang out
with the kids. Rob Lewis and I got to talk to about 100 kids. It
was awesome the Holy Spirit moved through us and made us look like we had been
preaching for years. Rob shared his testimony...it is a really awesome
story of God working in a life though tough times. Then I got up and
shared my testimony, which you can read on the new TeamFaith.com web
sight. I was so amazed at how the Holy Spirit gave me words to say.
We kind of put this thing together last minute, and I really didn't have a lot
of time to prepare, but it went great.
After our team pastor, Brian
O'Rourke, and I closed the service and invited the kids to make a decision to
accept Christ as their personal Lord and Savior, and six kids responded.
I was so excited. It was an honor to be a part of that service. I
tell you what. I won for the first time this past weekend, and it was
great. I want to win more. But,
to have the Holy Spirit move through you to touch the heart of a kid. For
them to make an eternal decision like they did, that was a truly rewarding
experience. The joy and peace that the Spirit of God gives actually beats
winning races. Believe me I want to win a lot more and I will do
everything in my power to do it. But, I am definitely looking forward to
the next time the Lord uses me!
Thanks everyone for your
support, and God Bless.
