Kevin Johnson is Excited About His Albuquerque, NM AX Win and etc.

This past week for me was a really
good one for me. I have been riding a
lot and training really hard. Since the
Toyota Arenacross race was in Albuquerque, NM I had a lot of people come to
ride at my track before the race. It
was good to get on the track with some different guys and really get some good
motos in. Usually it is my brother and I
riding together and pounding out laps, which, is better than no one. But this past week we had six or so guys
come in and ride with us. It was nice
to have some new guys to run into. After
a good week of riding I didn't have to fly off and spend the weekend in a Hotel
with out my pregnant wife, which was terrific.
Instead, I got to sleep in my own bed and my wife Seana who is 38 weeks
pregnant got to come to the races.
The event this weekend started off a
little different because we normally do freestyle practice in the morning
before anything else gets going. But
this weekend it would be last after all the other practices were over. So, I got to sleep in and stroll to the
venue around eleven instead of nine in the morning. I have been doing all the chapels for the Saturday events, which
has been an awesome privilege for me. I
veered off my normal series that I am doing on Apologetics, and talked about
the fact that if we really want to know God, we just need to pick up a Bible
and read it. It was well received and
we gave away seven Bibles..... which is why we travel with twenty of them in
the rig....... so if you see us and want one, come get one!
Practice went OK. The track was pretty easy and kind of sandy
so everyone was close in speed. But my
starts felt good and I was flowing pretty well. After regular practice we went out to do freestyle practice. Everyone was kind of sketched out because
the landing was pretty small and steep.
I hit it first and over jumped a little and landed hard. Then Justin Mise timed it up perfect, which
was cool cause he had not done one of these shows with us before. Finally Willy Watts and Terry Russell got it
down and we started to practice. But,
unfortunately Willy came up short and hurt his knee so he had to sit the rest
out. But we went on and got it down and
ready for the show.
The racing was good in Albuquerque, NM. In my heat I got a bad start and had to work
my way to second. Travis Banister road
to a good win, but I almost got him on the last lap. The freestyle show turned out pretty good for how sketched out we
all were. The crowd seemed to enjoy it
and the Air Force was pumped! So it was
a success. Finally the main event. I got a great jump and grabbed the
holeshot. I put in five perfect laps
and settled into a rhythm. My brother,
Keith, worked his way to second and that is how we finished. It was really cool to grab a win in my
hometown and to have my brother come in second behind me was even sweeter.
Thanks for checking in and God Bless!
